According to Gartner, by 2017 mobile apps will have been downloaded 268 billion times. From communication, collaboration, organisation, project management and cash flow management, you name it–there’s an app for it.
So why not let our phones and apps make our lives that bit easier and do some of the heavy lifting? Problem is, you could literally spends days crawling the app libraries and we know you have that time… Yeah, right! So to help you out and save a little time, here’s our top app picks for the savvy business owner on the go.
Google Apps - Email, File Sharing, Calendar, Docs the list goes on. You can save yourself a lot of time and hassle with this one. A lot of the major players are now using this service. It translates perfectly from desktop to device and gives accessibility a whole new level of ease.
Slack - A personal favourite after having used multiple instant messenger services. Visually, the interface is perfect. It makes you feel comfortable and connected. Your team can collaborate, discuss and share all within this very practical app. You even have the ability to search the text for forgotten conversations and misplaced files.
Evernote - Taking notes shouldn’t be a chore, nor should it be a task to retrieve them anywhere, anytime. Evernote is the ultimate note taker with the ability to share, update and record those great ideas and must not forgets.
Trello - Again, having used multiple project management tools, I found a home with Trello. It’s visual, responsive and logical. You can use it for all types of collaboration and project management tasks.
LinkedIn Pulse - By the time you clear your inbox and attend to mission critical, who has time to stay up to date? LinkedIn Pulse delivers industry relevant and newsworthy information to you within an app. Stay abreast and current when you’re in conversations.
MS Office - This one is for the Microsoft tribe. Albeit Y&C's a MS free zone, I know many of our clients still prefer and use MS. If you’d like to have one central place to manage and update your Microsoft files and docs on your phone or device - it's a worthy install.
Any.do - For those who want a list maker that syncs seamlessly with the IOS software then this is the one for you. Customisable colours and a nicely designed user interface give this app real usability and an at home vibe. Tick that list off.
Skype - It’s an oldie yet a goodie. There’s plenty of other options now including Google Hangouts or Fuze, but Skype remains a very sound application to have on your phone for on the go meetings or conferences.
Indinero - Over a morning cup or even racing to a meeting, stay on top of your finances and cash flow. The numbers needn't be so daunting and this little guy tackles the tough stuff for you. Synced directly from your bank accounts, it helps with cash flow and forecasting and presents it in a simplistic dashboard.
Post-it Plus - For all of you who use to be post it warriors–fear not, there’s now an app! Great for the visual type, simply take a snapshot of your post its and work away at clearing them from your list. Pretty clever and nicely adapted technology.
